Top 5 Best Kid Friendly Restaurants in Auckland

Our Top 5 Family Friendly Restaurants in Auckland

Want some other options which don’t just serve chicken nuggets for the kids? Well check out our Top 5 restaurants which we personally think are awesome options to take the family too and we think the kids (even the fussiest) will enjoy!

If you go to these places before 5pm -6pm-ish – it’s easy to get in and out quickly before the dinner rush too – so that’s a win as well.

These are are families Top 5 picks!

  • Boy and Bird – Ponsonby

It’s their gravy – we have a love of gravy 🙂 and Boy and Bird has perfect gravy! The kids usually have the Hot Rolls with shredded chicken and gravy or a quarter box with chunkies and coleslaw….and of course it comes with….gravy. You can get a kids menu option – they are just smaller serves but for growing boys – you’ll probably want the main menu option. We can also recommend their buttermilk chicken, korean spiced chicken thighs, coriander & pickled fennel as well.

  • Khun Pun – Albany

We’ve become regulars at Khun Pun, it has the best Thai food and they are happy to adjust their menu when you don’t want something included like onions or corn in the stir fry. We always go for the Ginger Chicken which is a stir fried chicken with ginger and vegetables and the Pad See Ew which is a traditional Thai fried rice noodle with chicken black bean sauce, egg and vegetables.  Their vegetable as always fresh and crisp. And on top of amazing food, the staff are lovely as well. They also offer a kids menu – which has fried rice etc but we have always stuck to their main menu. The also do a wicked Red Curry. Anything we’ve ordered from Khun Pun – has been a hit.

  • Federal Deli – Auckland City

These guys do the BEST gravy and fries! You can order a few plates to share with the family. The menu is old-school NYC Jewish delicatessen by Al Brown. We usually get the large Matzo Ball Soup to share (they bring bowls so you can share) then the spit roast chicken or New York Steak with poutine or fries and a salad or slaw. We can also recommend their Street Dogs too. And if you have room to move – they do a three way where you can pick any 3 of their amazing slices or cheesecake.

  • El Humero – Takapuna

We stumbled upon El Humero by accident in Takapuna and are now fans! Serves Colombian Style Barbecue – and it’s really good. Order from a selection of meats, chicken, vegetarian and it comes with a selection of sides and salad. Between two adults and one teen – we usually order two mains to share between the three of us and it’s plenty. We tried three mains and couldn’t get through all the food! The short ribs and the chicken are our top picks with the fries or Cassava wedges. Again – it’s best to arrive around 5pm at this place – it gets busy quickly so you may have a bit of a wait.El Humero

  • The Tasting Shed – Kumeu

The Tasting Shed has long been a favourite of ours. Take a little drive out to Kumeu sit in the sunshine (when it finally arrives) and grab yourselves some sharing plates to share and taste between the family. It’s the perfect way to introduce new flavours and foods to fussy eaters and they can run around The Tasting Shed’s beautiful gardens. The menu is always changing and they have never let me down! It’s a beautiful spot and the food is amazing. Highly recommend this place – it feels like home when you dine here too – they friendliest bunch of people with exceptional food – you can’t go wrong!
